Academics
The academic program at the HDPY School is designed to meet the needs of young children. Childhood is a period of rapid growth as children seek means to learn and achieve; they need to nourish their developing mental abilities. Young children need a sound base of experiences that are essential for later learning. It is during this time that children develop higher order thinking skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, creative thinking, societal thinking, reflecting thinking etc. Our Curriculum is planned and developed to create such experiences for your child.
The school follows the system prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education New Delhi, a national board of education that depends on its curriculum and syllabus on the research and expertise of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (N.C.E.R.T.) to which it is affiliated. The medium of instruction is English. The additional language taught are Malayalam-the regional language, and Hindi-the national language, one of which is dropped at class IX.
The curriculum is mainly divided as scholastic and non-scholastic. The scholastic subjects include the three languages, Science, Social Science and Mathematics from classes I to X. In the non-scholastic subjects, we provide physical education, painting, music, dance, work experience etc. and students are tested and evaluated scientifically and continuously. Classes XI and XII follow the plus two pattern of education envisaged by the C.B.S.E, New Delhi, which leads to All India Senior School Certificate Examination. The school offers five options of study at this stage. English (Core) is a compulsory subject in all five options.
The Primary School extends from class I to V, catering to laying a solid edifice for scholastic formation. The curriculum programme of the session includes learning scholastic disciplines in language-English, Malayalam and Hindi, in Sciences and Social Studies, and Mathematics. Students are also exposed to computer language and technology from class I. They get opportunities to develop their skills in public speaking, histrionic talents, singing, dancing, craft and in fine arts. Projects and field trips, strengthening academic training, are also introduced into the curriculum. Co-curricular activities of sports and yoga lead students to better self-awareness and self-esteem.
The upper-primary school or the middle school section has classes from VI TO VIII. Students in this section are gradually groomed to cope with more scholastic training. Besides learning the 3 languages-English, Malayalam & Hindi, other academic subjects, Mathematics, Science, Social Science & Computer Science are taught. Learning Moral Science and life skills makes students critically aware of their interpersonal relationship in their families, among class- mates and other and their relationship with the Almighty. Non- Scholastic subjects like fine arts, histrionics, yoga, sports and games are the integral part of the curriculum of the middle section.
HDPY prepares children to undergo scholastic and non- scholastic learning programmed based on the Central Board of Secondary Education Syllabus (C.B.S.E.), which conducts the Secondary (Class X) Examination, AISSE, the Senior Secondary (Class XII) Examination, AISSCE, in India and overseas.
Students are taught three languages: English being the medium of instruction, and the International Language, Hindi, the National Language, and the regional language.
Senior Secondary Classes (XI, XII) lead to All India Senior School Certificates Examination, conducted yearly by the C.B.S.E. The school offers eight options of study at this stage. English Core is a compulsory subject in all the eight options.
Assessment data supports teachers in designing learning experiences tailored according to the needs of their students. Specialists in the field of individual needs also track student progress and share their understanding with classroom teachers and parents.
Evidence of student learning documented through portfolios, projects, tasks and assignments as well as that of progress, are shared with parents at regular intervals through coffee mornings, parent-teacher conferences, meetings and open-house days besides student-led conferences and exhibitions. At HDPY, there is a strong belief that assessments are an integral and enjoyable part of learning that is not distinct from the learning process itself.
Co-curricular activities are those activities which are undertaken along with academic studies. These activities help students to develop problem-solving, reasoning, critical thinking, creative thinking, communication, and collaborative abilities.
Co-curricular activities are meant to bring social skills, intellectual skills, moral values, personality progress and character appeal in students. It includes athletics, cultural events, Library activities, science lab activities, classroom activities, creative arts etc.
